Demountable rubber stave bearings are used in ship, boat and tug applications.  These bearings are used primarily as a bearing surface for the propeller shaft.  The advantage of these bearings is the lower cost of replacement as there is no brass bearing housing to replace thus reducing cost.  The disadvantage is the increased cost of initial installation as the demountable stave bearing housing needs to be built into the vessel stern tube.
